An Elder Speaks
Christ The Foundation
By Lindsey Baker, Jr.

We find a remarkable prophecy in Psalms 118:22.
“The stone which the builders refused is become the head stone
of the corner”
The Jews were the builders. Jesus Christ was the stone who was
rejected by the Jews, and Jesus became the Head of the corner.
Jesus being rejected and crucified by the Jews became an
atonement for the sin of the world. Jesus was raised from the
dead, a proof of his conquest over death and sin, and a pledge
of everlasting life to those who are baptized in the blood of
the lamb. Jesus was constituted the foundation on which the
salvation of mankind rest, and the corner stone which unites
Jews and Gentiles and complete the whole building.
Jesus Christ the sure foundation of everything pertaining to
salvation. No man can lay any other foundation (1 Cor. 3:11).
At the time Paul wrote those words, Jesus had completed the
scheme of redemption, had commissioned the apostles to teach
and baptize all nations, had ascended on high, and been
crowned Lord of all. Paul had planted a church in Corinth,
across the Mediterranean, hundreds of miles from Jerusalem.
Some of the Corinthians were threatening to divide the true
faith. So Paul exhorts them to build upon the sure foundation
which he had already firmly established, Jesus Christ.
A good foundation is absolutely necessary. A costly super
structure would be of no value upon a weak foundation. Jesus
distinguished the wise man from the foolish man by the
foundation upon which each built. (Matt. 7:24-27) Upon what
sort of a spiritual foundation are you building?
