An Elder Speaks
Let us Pray
By Jack Smith
September 14, 2003
One of the outstanding duties, privileges, and joys of the
Christian is prayer. It is God’s desire and will that we, as
Christians pray. “pray without ceasing; in everything give
thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus to you “
(1st Thess. 5:17, 18).
What a privilege to “draw near with holiness unto the throne
of grace, that we may receive mercy, and may find grace to
help us in time of need” (Heb. 4;16).
It is a great joy to know that we have a loving and caring
heavenly father who listens for our prayers.
It give us joy and satisfaction to know “the supplication of a
righteous man availeth much in its working” (James 5;16), that
God has the ability and skill to answer prayer. The fact that
Christ spend much time in prayer is positive proof that
Christians must be praying disciples. At the beginning of
Christ’s public ministry, immediately following his being
baptized, he prayed (Luke 3:21). The selection of the twelve
(Luke 6:12). Christ prayed much.
Surely, no prayer less person can be a follower of him who
prayed so much.
