A History of Miami Gardens church of Christ

The congregation of Miami Gardens church of Christ began its existence in November 1959. The congregation at that time consisted of 14 families which was formed into a congregation of 76 members. Under the leadership of Reginald Morton and Wesley E. Rushing as Elders (bishops), the congregation grew to a membership of over 90.

In 1963, it was decided that the congregation needed a larger property and building site.

In November 1966, the congregation was moved to 2255 Miami Gardens Drive until the present time. The congregation at this time exists under the leadership and direction of Lindsey Baker, Jack Smith and Ronald Thompkins as elders (bishops) of the congregation.

The congregation at this time consists of 67 families or 257 members.

The church provides a Sunday Morning Bible School and two worship services on Sunday, and Wednesday Night Bible Study.

The church has also been certified as an adjunct campus for the Sunset School of Preaching in Lubbock, Texas. Currently, it has over a dozen students enrolled in the program.

Evangelistic and community activities include monthly visits to the South Florida Evaluation Treatment Center, a Singles Devotion, Youth activities, and tutorial programs for area students.

The church is also a voting precinct for Precinct No. 222.
